I am Sailormoon!
Ridiculous amounts of metallic spandex and hours spent hand-sewing on rows and rows of costly gaudy metallic trim? Sign me up!! \o/

Cosplay was always one of those things that was a pipe dream to me — I followed along and (maybe slightly jealously) admired from afar the amazing costumes my friends & others were able to make. And in those days, when the cosplay world was still relatively young, they were some pretty impressive costumes! Wigs hand-colored with sharpies to get the color just right, impressive armor somehow made out of craft foam, wings, ridiculous seamstressing — you name it — it was somehow done. Finally, in my last year of medical school, I set out to somehow engineer the costume I had always dreamed of wearing — Seramyu Eternal Sailormoon. It took me three years, but I can’t describe the feeling of twirling around at Anime Expo 2013 as rows upon rows of painstakingly hand-sewn trim imported from Japan caught the light and sparkled so brightly that my husband later remarked to me that it had all been worth it.
